How to Keep Your Skin Safe While Paddleboarding

If you live near a lake or just enjoy the adventure in general, paddle boarding is an excellent pastime. However, a day spent outside is not kind to the skin. Sunburns, itchy skin, and rashes are frequent complaints when paddle boarding all day. Here are some of the greatest remedies and precautions to follow in order to enjoy the day to the utmost.

Sunscreen is non-negotiable, carry it every time

Sunscreen is an absolute must-have in your bag. Apply plenty of sunblock before venturing out. But don’t forget to reapply throughout the day. Paddleboarding can keep you in the water for hours, so wear a high-quality broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 50 and reel-safety feature to keep you safe from the reefs below. Reapply it every thirty minutes throughout the day to get the most out of it.

Also, while paddling, make sure to apply sunscreen to all exposed parts of your body. If possible, avoid paddling between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when UV rays are at their peak. Sun exposure during this time can result in severe sunburns and perhaps skin cancer in the long run.

Avoid using makeup, shift your focus on skincare instead

Take care of your skin daily, especially the night before you go out for paddle boarding. Go dedicatedly through all the steps of skincare and also sleep well. Cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing improves the resilience of your skin.

However, avoid using makeup before you get on the paddleboard. Makeup clogs the pores and does not let your skin breathe. To combat the harsh sunlight, your skin must be clean and in condition to breathe. You would not enjoy taking care of breakouts after a long day of adventure, that is, paddle boarding.

Drink plenty of water to stay refreshed

Stay hydrated throughout the day to prevent your skin from feeling parched. Keep a water bottle at hand and take a swig or two every few minutes to stay as hydrated as possible. Paddle boarding is an intense activity and you would be sweating a lot. This is why drinking enough water is essential to prevent dehydration.

Your skin would continue to look dewy even after an intense day out with water sports if you are careful about your water intake.

Most importantly, do not skip the aftercare

Irrespective of the care and cautions you take; it is normal for the skin to feel strained from all the activity and climatic elements. Thus, taking care of the skin after paddle boarding is also equally important. Wash your face and body thoroughly. Be thorough with the aftercare moisturization and hydration. Using cooling products like aloe vera gel and ceramide-based creams to calm down your skin.

All these together can ensure you get a perfect day out that involves a lot of adventure and fun. Do not worry about the consequences on your skin and hold back when you are following a dedicated skincare routine.
